Vista track team remains unbeaten in league

Coming off a sweep of El Dorado and Union Mine on March 28, Vista del Lago track and field teams are 5-0 in the Sierra Valley Conference with one league meet remaining against Cosumnes Oaks on April 11. There were several standout performances against the Cougars last Wednesday, including the varsity boys 800-meter runners who swept the top-three spots; Jeff Reinking (2:11.05), Zack Jaeger (2:11.47) and Sam Ruby (2:14.12). Jaeger and Kyle Chun also placed first and second in the 3,200 in 10:25.72 and 10:39.01, respectively. Ethan Pipion won the 300 hurdles and triple jump, while Martin Garza claimed the long jump and David Howell won the 1,600. For the girls, Jessica Sampson, Caprina Pipion, Ashley Richards and Andrea Price took the top-four spots in the long jump, as Richards (13 feet, 9 inches) and Price (12-6) had personal-best marks. Vista also had the top-three finishers in the 100 hurdles and 800 meters. Nicole Frydenlund, Allie Magon and Jessica Gianopulos ran the 100 hurdles, while Madeleine Ankhelyi, Sierra Jaeger and Clare Carroll swept the 800. Jessica Sampson and Kelsey Decker went one-two in the 100 meters. Other winners for Vista included Pipion (triple jump), Meaghan Heffelfinger (shot and discus), Allie Magon (300 hurdles), and Jen Morgan (3,200). Lucie Chevreuil, Julia Hofmann and Magon all took second in the 1,600, high jump and pole vault, respectively. For the freshman-sophomore squad, Mackenzie Miller placed first in the 100 meters with a personal-best time of 12.84. Sean Kennedy won the 800 in 2:14.18, while Daniel Morgan won both hurdles races. Spencer Greco claimed the long jump with a leap of 15-7. On Friday at a co-ed meet at El Dorado, the 4x800-meter and distance medley teams of Reinking, Zach Jaeger, Sierra Jaeger and Ankhelyi, who won both events by half a lap. The long jump relay of David Raymond, Martin Garza, Nicole Frydenlund and Caprina Pipion combined to jump 64-6 ½ to win by nearly two feet. Kyra Tung, Caprina Pipion, Garza and Mitch Jones extended Vista’s win streak to three years in the 4x200-meter relay team. Travis Rudnick (37-6 ½) and Mitch Jones (5-4) had personal-best marks in the triple jump and high jump, respectively. The Eagles finished the meet by winning the freshman-sophomore and varsity 4x400-meter races. The freshman-sophomore group of Caprina Pipion, Tung, David Raymond and Mitch McCann posted a time of 3:55, while the Maci Shill, Taylor Knickerbocker, Harry Kozlowski and Ethan Pipion ran for the varsity and won in 3:50.
