Vista del Lago’s tennis team remained undefeated Monday following a 6-3 win over Bear River. Sandeep Gurram and Jingwen Low won singles matches in straight sets, while four doubles teams also picked up wins. Dina Alarian and Angelica Frank as well as Danica Greenall and Katie Sarrels won in girls doubles, while Kyle Johnson and Gus Hendrick won the boys. Gage Huber and Arielle Frank also came away with a victory in mixed doubles. The Eagles got the season off to a great start with a 6-3 win over Argonaut, the team that eliminated them from the playoffs a season ago. They then opened Sierra Valley Conference play with an 8-1 win over El Dorado and then defeated Union Mine 7-2 on Thursday. Against Union Mine Gurram and Preston Fagalde won in straight sets at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, while Sai Rathish and Julian Rodkiewicz won easily at No. 2 boys’ doubles. The No. 1 and 2 doubles girls’ teams also won in straight sets, Alarian and Angelica Frank at No. 1 and Greenall and Sarrels at No. 2. For Greenall and Sarrels, it was their third straight win. The No. 1 boys’ doubles team of Johnson and Hendrick came away with a three-set win, while the mixed doubles team of Huber and Arielle Frank had the most impressive victory, trailing 5-0 in the first set before winning nine straight games and ended up winning 7-5, 6-3.
