Vista to send seven athletes to Masters championships

Emily Cooper is one of seven Vista del Lago athletes competing in this week’s Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Track and Field Championships at Hughes Stadium. Cooper qualified in two individual events and a relay at the Division II section championships held last week to lead the way for the Eagles. She placed second in both the 100 and 200 meters, in 12.63 and 25.49 seconds, respectively. Khendall Turner, Narissa Tsuboi and Jessica Sampson joined Cooper in the 4x100-meter relay and placed third in 48.97. Lahr qualified in the triple jump, placing seventh with a leap of 34 feet, 3 ¾ inches. She is an alternate to compete in the long jump after placing ninth in that event at the section meet with a distance of 16’ 7 ½”, just half an inch from qualifying outright. Tsuboi also qualified in the 100 meters after finishing third behind Cooper in 12.70. Madeleine Ankhelyi qualified in the 1,600 meters with a fourth-place finish in 5:06.04, while Meaghan Heffelfinger will compete in the discus after placing seventh with a throw of 98’5”. Emily Tuscano is an alternate in the pole vault. She placed ninth at sections with a vault of 9’11”. Riley Martin just missed on qualifying in the 800 meters by 5/100 of a second, as he ran 10th in 1:59.26.
