Ten wrestlers and five placewinners from Vista del Lago High earned the team a seventh-place finish at the Lou Encalada Invitational held at Rodriguez High School in Fairfield. Vista faired quite well despite filling only 10 of 14 weight classes, while competing against 28 other teams. Vista junior Troy Grossi and freshman Ben Johnson each placed third at 140 and 145 pounds, respectively. Both wrestlers won three of their four matches with Grossi earning two pins along the way. Junior Michael Gary placed fourth at 134 pounds, as did senior CJ Moore at 160. Both wrestlers won two of four matches during the tournament. Junior Brandon Johnson finished fifth at 182 pounds, winning three of five matches. Jacob Sahagun also split four matches but did not place. The Eagles enter today’s final dual meet at Cosumnes Oaks in a battle for a Sierra Valley Conference title. If the Eagles (4-1) beat the Wolfpack (5-0), they will earn a share of the league title with Cosumnes Oaks and Union Mine.
