Vista, Placer top girls' teams in Division III

At the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III cross country meet, both Vista Del Lago and Placer had good showings. Vista del Lago won the girls; section championship with a score of 29. They had a commanding lead over the second place Hillmen, who took the silver with a score of 64. Madeline Ankhelyi was the Division III girls' champion, winning in 18 minutes, 59 seconds. Jennifer Morgan finished fourth with a time of 19:53, and Alegra Mendez placed sixth with a time of 20:09. “It feels awesome,” Ankhelyi said. “Just being out there with my team and having my team support me was really great. It is just awesome to come back as a sophomore and win this.” Leading the way for Placer was Macaylea Mitchell who finished ninth clocked at 20:22. Teammate Kailee Warren was right behind her with a tenth place finish and 20:26 time. In the Division III boys race, Placer placed fourth overall with a score of 86. They were led by the first-place finisher Christian Finkbeiner. Finkbeiner, a junior, had a winning time of 16:26. Issac Trip was the next best Hillman, finishing 19th. The entire Vista del Lago and Placer girls' teams will advance to the state meet. Finkeiner will be the only Placer male advancing. “I am really excited for the state meet,” Ankhelyi said. “Now that I know what it is like from last year, it’s going to be fun to see if I can run faster than last year.”
