Vista del Lago’s freshman football team recovered from a slow start to defeat Casa Roble, 26-12 on Thursday. After a scoreless first half, the Eagles scored points on both sides of the ball. Defensively, Ney Vencer finished with three interceptions, one which he returned for a score, while defensive tackle Wade Thomson also returned an interception for a touchdown. Offensively, Jacob Sampson caught two touchdown passes, while Aaron Schley booted a pair of extra points. “We had a slow start and made many mistakes, as our defense held strong, while our offense played poorly,” Vista coach Ty Schantz said. “We were able to get the team refocused and pick Casa’s defense apart in the second half along with the defense stepping up their game.” Vista’s next game is Thursday against El Dorado.
