Swan Wainwright thought the joke was on him Friday night. With his team winning three of their last four games, he thought they’d come into the final game season game at River City on Friday night with some momentum. Unfortunately, the Vista del Lago varsity girls didn’t. “I told the girls at halftime that I was looking around the gym for the camera because I thought I was being punked,” Wainwright said. “I just thought we would have competed harder. We didn’t defend. We didn’t rebound. I think that the game takes away from our good play in the previous few games. Vista fell behind 24-3 after the first quarter on its way to a 55-23 whipping by River City, as the Eagles finished the season at 4-8 in the Sierra Valley Conference and 6-20 overall. Elizabeth Freese, the team’s only senior, led the way with eight points. After the game Wainwright addressed the team. “I thanked the girls for giving me the opportunity to coach them and thanked them for engaging in the season and working hard to improve,” he said. “It’s a bittersweet end. You spend so much time together it’s hard not to think of the team of being like a family.”
