Eagles battle Union Mine for league title
Vista del Lago’s wrestling squad won four bouts on the mat and another six by forfeit in a 59-18 win over Galt on Jan. 26. The win improved their league record to 5-0, and last night the Eagles battled Union Mine for the Sierra Valley Conference title. The Diamondbacks also entered the match with a 5-0 record. (Results of the match will be posted today at folsom telegraph.com). Ezra McCann picked up the team’s first win at 140 pins with a fall and teammates Chris Chovanec (145) and Jacob Sahagun (152) followed with pins as well. Jordan Bailey won by technical fall at 160 pounds. Boys basketball The Eagles saw their four-game win streak come to an end on Friday, as they lost to SVC-leading El Dorado, 68-48. The disappointing loss hurt even more since the Eagles, who have played much better of late, narrowly lost to the Cougars on Jan. 4, 55-52. The team opened the week with a 64-46 win over River City. They began this week’s schedule with a 4-3 record in league and a 6-16 mark overall. The team’s next game is at home against Cosumnes Oaks. Girls Basketball Like the boys’ team, the varsity girls split two games last week, beating River City on Wednesday, 57-56, while losing to El Dorado on Friday, 44-35. The Eagles, 4-3 in league and 14-9 overall, will try to get back on the right track on Friday when they travel to Cosumnes Oaks.
