After 10 losses to start the season, Vista del Lago’s varsity boys’ basketball team picked up two wins at the Lincoln Tournament last week. Vista opened the tournament with a 64-61 loss to Oakmont on Dec. 20 before earning their first win over the season against Lincoln, 69-62. The Eagles then defeated Golden Sierra 71-32 and finished the tournament in fifth place. “It’s good to get a couple of wins,” Vista coach Matt von Tillow said. “It was nice to bounce back after losing that opening game by three points. We were a little more balanced offensively in those last two games and scored quite a bit more points. Guys stepped up.” In the win over Lincoln, Patrick Lowman led the team with 23 points, while Jake Duenkel scored 16 and Drew McPherson added 14. Against Golden Sierra, Lowman, who was the team’s lone all-tournament selection, scored 14, while McPherson and Duenkel followed with 13 and 12, respectively. “Jake earned the coach’s award,” von Tillow said. “He really stepped up and scored a lot and that was a big factor.”
