Riding an 11-game win streak, Vista del Lago?s baseball team opens the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs at 4 p.m. Thursday against Central Catholic at Tony Zupo Field in Lodi. The Eagles, the runner-up in the Sierra Valley Conference with a 15-3 record, are 19-8 overall and playing their best ball of the season. Their pitching has been strong and the defense has been solid. ?We?ve won 11 in a row so we?ll see if we make out better in the playoffs this year,? Vista coach Scott Seffens said. ?Our pitchers have been great, we?ve played good defense and we?ve been swinging it a little bit.? Now that the playoffs are here, there are no easy opponents. Seffens knows the road to a section title is a difficult one. ?Central Catholic won their league and has won a lot of Division V section titles so I?m sure they?re tough,? Seffens said. ?Even if we get by them, Oakdale is there so it?s not going to be easy. I think scoring runs will be the key for us. The way we?ve lost games is when we only score one or two runs. Timely hitting will be the key for us.? Vista finished the regular season with a win over Galt, beating them 9-1 on May 8. Mike Majeski took a perfect game into the seventh inning, before the Warriors scored a run on two hits. Majeski has pitched very well in league play, finishing with a 0.77 earned run average. His teammate and fellow sophomore, Tyler Kaim, finished league play with a 0.73 earned run average. Ryan Rodriguez had two hits, scored two runs and knocked in two in the win over Galt. Nick Scolini drove in three runs, while Alex Muzzi homered, knocked in two and scored twice.
