Vista advances to section tennis semis; will face Placer Wednesday

Vista del Lago?s reward for reaching the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III tennis semifinals? Placer High. The Eagles travel to Auburn to face Placer on Wednesday, a tennis powerhouse that has won three of the last five section titles in Division III. ?Placer is tough,? Vista coach Chris Evers said. ?They have won sections many times and are the top seed again this season. We will have to play awesome tennis in all nine lines of play.? Vista cruised by West Campus on Monday, winning six of the nine matches, including all four singles matches. Sandeep Gurram (6-0, 6-2) and Kyle Johnson (6-1, 6-2) won for the boys, while Kriti Bhatia (6-0, 6-4) and Jingwen Low (6-1, 6-2) won on the girls? side. Both No. 2 doubles teams also won, as Akshay Rathish and Preston Fagalde won 6-3, 6-4 and Danica Greenall and Katie Sarrels split the first two sets 7-6 and 4-6 before pulling out a 10-5 super breaker victory. In other Vista tennis news, Gurram reached the section semifinals on Friday before losing a hard-fought three-set match to the top-seed and eventual champ, Jack Berry of Escalon, 6-2, 6-7, 6-4.
