Vernon, Lam top performers in dual loss to Sheldon

Folsom High’s track and field team lost a dual meet to Sheldon Wednesday, but still had some good performances. Doug Vernon set a meet record in winning the triple jump, breaking his brother’s record with a leap of 44 feet, 8 inches. Vernon also took second in the long jump at 17-10. Ben Hodson won the 400 meters in 53.0 and Kyle Hampton took the 100 in 11.6. Vinnie Morin also won the 800 in 2:10, leading teammates Sam Scheuer (2:11) and Mike Kinoshita (2:13) to the line for a Bulldog sweep. Scheuer also took second in the 1,600 in 4:41, while Morin finished third in the 1,600 in 4:49. Vivian Lam led the girls, placing first in the 1,600 in 5:39 and then taking second in the 800 in 2:36, both times being personal-best marks. Elizabeth Ruffino placed first in the pole vault by clearing the bar at 6-0. Muna Alhamad set a meet record at the freshman-sophomore level, winning the 800 in 2:25. Shelby Contreras took the shot put (16-6), while Cameron Estep won the discus (59-8) and Katie Bock was first in the pole vault (7-0). Bock also took second in the 1,600 in 5:46, while Estep finished second in the shot put at 15-9. Contreras followed Estep in the discus by placing second with a throw of 53-1. Tim Scott led the freshman-sophomore boys by winning the pole vault (9-6) and also took second in the 110 hurdles in 19.3. Jake Klaiber won the high jump by clearing the bar at 4-10.
