The 13-and-under Folsom Flames baseball team had a successful weekend April 14-15 playing in the USSSA Spring Super NIT baseball tournament held at Big League Dreams in Manteca, finishing in second place. The Flames started off pool play Saturday afternoon at Angel Stadium by defeating the Diamond Kings from Danville, 6-5, behind strong pitching performances from starter Trevor Darrow and closer Matt Langbehn, as well as timely hits by Evan Stafford and Brent Schaeffer. Under the lights at the Polo Grounds Saturday night, Chase Walter pitched a complete game against the Delta Pirates from Brentwood. The Flames won 7-4, as the bats came alive in a big way with hits from Adam McMahon, Bryce Mendenhall, Mike Nelson and Dominic Langham. Sunday saw the Flames play at Tiger Stadium against the Brentwood Blast. Brent Schaeffer started the game on the mound and Mike Nelson came in to close it out in the seventh inning after clutch hitting from Darrow and strong base running by Chase Walter allowed the Flames to come from behind to win, 6-5. Sunday afternoon saw the Flames finish off pool play 3-1, as they came up against a tough Nor Cal Rebels team from Sacramento. Mendenhall got the start and Stafford and McMahon came in along the way to relieve, but the Rebels bats proved to be too much as the Flames lost 12-4. With a 3-1 record the Flames advanced to the championship game Sunday evening only to once again face the Nor Cal Rebels. Dylan Crane got the start and pitched five strong innings and the boys fought hard; however, in the end the Rebels got the best of the Flames and went on to defeat them by a score of 12-2. Darrow, Langham, McMahon and Stafford received All Tournament Team honors. The 13-and-under Flames include Mark Langbehn, William FitzPatrick, Brent Schaffer, Dylan Crane, Chase Walter, Dominic Langham, Matt Langbehn, Bryce Mendenhall, Trevor Darrow, Mike Nelson, Evan Stafford and Adam McMahon.
