Bill and Lori Liberty’s tattoo parlor will double as an art gallery on Second Saturday, 5-9 p.m. Aug. 14. Designed after the Bellagio Suite in Las Vegas, Liberty Tattoo, 715 Sutter Street, “is a comfortable place to hang out, get tattooed and browse around,” Bill said. Bill is a photographer and painter in addition to a tattoo artist. His acrylics and watercolors, as well as photos of the tattoos he has designed, adorn the walls. His work, including “U-LA,” an acrylic of a submarine he completed two weeks ago, will be on sale during the Second Saturday event. “Since we’re upstairs, a lot of people don’t know there’s a tattoo shop on Sutter Street, so this a good way to promote our business,” Lori said. “Hip Pockit Metal Art” and original “Sailor Jerry” work will also be on sale. According to Bill, Sailor Jerry was a famous tattoo artist in the 40’s and 50’s. “He’s the original Ed Hardy,” Lori said. Artwork from other galleries and by friends of Bill and Lori will also be displayed. “We have a lot of clients and friends who are artists,” Lori said. “We try to convince them to display their work.”
