Struebing is new football coach at Vista del LagoBy: Matt Long, Sports Editor
Mike Struebing has been chosen to replace Chris Jones as Vista del Lago’s varsity football coach.
Struebing, 29, has been Vista’s quarterback coach the last two seasons under Jones and is in his third year as a science teacher at the school.
“We’ve obviously had some success the past few years and we’re thrilled with that,” Struebing said. “Anytime a new coach comes to a team, there are some tweaks and changes, but we’re going to try to continue to build on the success we’ve had.”
The Eagles are coming off the best season in their history, winning 12 games and reaching the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III championship game where they lost to Oakdale, 22-9. With or without Jones, expectations are high for next season.
“We return some key guys and have a chance to be successful,” Struebing said. “We’re going to have to get together as a team and talk about things we want to accomplish. The biggest thing is to get better every day, compete and have the opportunity to win.”
