Trevor Cristiani earned his biggest victory yet by winning the Airport Auto Brokers Late Model Series feature Aug. 20 at Ukiah Speedway.

He set fast time that night and clinched the series championship with two races left. Cristiani, 16, arrived at All American Speedway on Saturday hoping for his first victory at Roseville’s one-third-mile track. All American was Cristiani’s second home track in 2010, as he raced full time in a driver development program.

“This is my favorite track, especially in a Late Model,” Cristiani said.

But Cristiani still has yet to win in Roseville. He nearly won the AABLM’s debut race at All American in April, losing the lead in a late shootout after dominating much of the event.

On Saturday night, Cristiani qualified second at 13.497 seconds to Junior Roddy’s 13.278. Cristiani also won the dash.

He took the lead on lap 22 in the 75-lap feature, lost it to Jeremy Hopkins, regained it one lap later and was leading on the white-flag lap when a crash put him a lap down and left him fourth at the end. Roddy also was involved in the pileup. Jeremy Doss drove by and won.

Cristiani came up one lap short in Roseville, but he cashed in the week before.
“There are really not words to describe how happy I am to win a championship in my first full season of Late Models,” Cristiani said. “I never thought I would clinch it in only 10 races.”

Cristiani has accomplished much in his young career, including 15 Outlaw kart championships, scoring his first Modified win at age 14 and earning his first Late Model quick time at 15.

Cristiani dominated the AABLM from the start, beginning with three consecutive runner-up finishes. His first win came in June at Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka, and he followed with a pole and second-place finish at Ukiah.

In all, Cristiani has tallied eight top-two finishes and three fourth-place efforts.

In other races:

Legends of the Pacific — Doss led for 20 laps before surrendering the top spot to Luis Tyrrell on lap 30. Doss regained the lead on lap 33 and led the final three laps. Tyrrell set fast time at 15.456. James Bickford and Keith Clement won heat races, and Tony Mangini claimed the dash.

WSRA Mini Cup — Tommy McCarthy led the last 23 laps of the 25-lap feature. Bryce Napier set fast time in qualifying at 16.637 seconds, and Andrew Vanderpool won the dash.

NCMA Sprint — No. 1 qualifier David Goodwill (13.636) took the lead on lap 11 and won the 35-lap main. Denny Burrell won the heat and dash.
