Spend your second Saturdays on Sutter Street in FolsomBy: Laura Newell, Of the Telegraph
As the spring weather shines through – so does Folsom’s Second Saturday on Sutter Street.
The arts, entertainment and shopping events run from 5 to 9 p.m. every second Saturday of the month through September, featuring a variety of local entertainment directly on Sutter Street.
The monthly bash starting Saturday, April 13, will feature live music at the outdoor amphitheater from 6 to 8 p.m., belly dancing at 7:15 p.m. at the Planet Earth Rising Lot, 625 Sutter St. and other live music throughout the street.
After the event, people can head to Powerhouse Pub, Scarlet’s and Hampton’s on Sutter for more live music to end their night.
For those looking for a show to watch, live theater will be performed at Sutter Street Theatre, 717 Sutter St. Two shows will be featured on Saturday, April 13, including “Cinderella” at 1 p.m. and “Moon Over Buffalo” at 8 p.m.
“We are very excited to have Second Saturday events back in action in Historic Folsom,” said Stephanie Rodgers, Folsom Historic District Association director. “This is a fun event for all ages and helps support small business in the Historic District."
Second Saturday will also help promote businesses and local merchants in the Folsom Historic District.
Some merchants will offer special deals when customers present a Second Saturday program on the day of the event.
Participating stores include Grapes and Ivy, 929 Sutter St., where customers pay full price for one item and receive 50 percent off the second item of lesser value.
“We are excited for Second Saturday to start up again. I encourage shoppers to walk down to our new location across the street from the light rail station,” said Joan Wilson, Grapes and Ivy owner. “We offer a variety of home and garden décor as well as stylish boutique items including purses, jewelry, scarves and clothing.”
After a night of shopping and dancing in the street to live music, visitors can stay at the Lake Natoma Inn, 702 Gold Lake Drive, for special Second Saturday rates. For more information on rates, call (916) 351-1500.
