Softball fundraiser Saturday for parasailing accident victim

The Greater Sacramento Softball Association will hold a softball Pentathlon to aid Victor Rodriguez, an employee of Sunrise Parks and Recreation. Rodriguez married Crystal earlier this summer and the two took a trip to the Bahamas for their honeymoon. On the 12th day of their marriage, they were in a tragic parasailing accident. Rodriguez suffered serious injuries, including a punctured lung and numerous broken ribs and left to grieve for his wife, Crystal, who did not survive. All proceeds from the event will go to help the Rodriguez’, neither of whom had medical coverage or life insurance. The Pentathlon will take place Sunday at 2 p.m. The five events will be pitching, throwing for accuracy, hitting for accuracy and distance, home run derby and base running for speed. The cost is $25 to enter all events or participants can enjoy single events for $7 each. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. and the events will kick off at 2 p.m. There are separate divisions for both men and women. All the events will take place at the Rusch Park Softball Diamonds, located on Antelope Road, within the Rusch Community Park at 7801 Auburn Blvd. in Citrus Heights. At 5:30 p.m. there will be a free concert at the park performed by “The Reel.” For more information contact Jenny Steffens at (916) 725-8843 or
