Joel Slak and Taylor Knoll have qualified for Monday’s Divisional Golf Championships at Paradise Valley in Fairfield. The Folsom High seniors have led the golf team all season and are among the top golfers in the area. Slak earned the Most Valuable Player award for the Delta River League, while Knoll made the all-league team, the first golfer in Steve Burgess’ coaching career to be an all-league player all four years in high school. Slak and Knoll ended their varsity careers by shooting even-par 72s at Ancil Hoffman in the final league tournament of the season on Tuesday. The Bulldogs placed fourth in the league behind Jesuit, Oak Ridge and Ponderosa. “Joel placed himself in position to win the top individual award last week at Rancho Murieta on the North course by shooting a stellar 3-under 69 to place him in a tie with Corey Pereira of Ponderosa,” Burgess said. “Taylor was in that same mix going into the tournament but struggled with an 83 to fall to sixth in the individual race. His 72 at Ancil Hoffman helped him rebound to take fourth in league.”
