Singing, comedy in theatrical spotlight in Folsom, Auburn, Roseville

From musicals to children?s theater, there is no shortage of shows offered in the region in August. Sutter Street Theatre The busiest little theatrical group this side Sacramento has to be Sutter Street Theatre, 717 Sutter St., Folsom. In August, you?ll find ?The Marvelous Wonderettes? running 7 p.m. Thursdays and Sundays, 4 p.m. Saturdays through Aug. 26. The musical focuses on a fictional all-girl singing group in the early 1960s. It?s directed by Warren Harrison, who recently completed a stint appearing in and directing the hit ?Leading Ladies.? Look for a review online at For families, ?Disney?s The Jungle Book? runs at 1 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Aug. 12. This is also your last chance to catch ?Our Town? before it wraps production on Aug. 5. Catch the show at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturday, 4 p.m. Sundays. FreeFall Stage Formerly known as T.H.E. Actors Workshop, the newly re-dubbed FreeFall Stage is tackling ?Measure for Measure? by Shakespeare but set in a more Jane Austen style time period. It shows at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 4 p.m. Sundays July 27 through Aug. 26. General admission is $15, seniors and students (ages 12-20) are $12 and children 11 and younger are $7. Matinees are $2 off the price of general admission tickets only. The cast looks impressive. James Van Eaton, who donned Gandalf?s robes in Sutter Street Theatre?s recent production of ?The Hobbit,? is taking on the role of Lucio. Fun families like the Italian Lucia family, the French/Canadian Lumberjacks and the shouting Childs family of England get everyone involved in a crazy food fight that leaves everyone asking, ?Is all that?s Swedish Sweet???
