For most kids the month of July means water parks, camping and family vacations. For the ball players in the Sierra Valley Storm baseball program, July means one thing only ? All-Star baseball. Starting June 30, all six Sierra Valley teams took to the road to open up Sectional play in Vacaville and Rocklin. Of the six teams (9U-14U), five managed to advance to regional play throughout Northern California. The 10-year olds, 12-year olds and 14-year olds all won their respective section titles in Rocklin. The 9-year-olds and 11-year olds qualified by taking second at their sectional tournament in Vacaville. Regional play for each team is the second step in a four-step journey to the World Series. With each round the competition gets stiffer and the stakes higher as families forego vacations and backyard pool parties to focus on their all-star journey. In Sierra Valley's fourth year as PONY baseball program, no team has been able to earn their way to the World Series. The current 12-year old team has made it to the West Zone tournament two times in a row, but fell short each time. This year they are bigger and better and have their eyes on the Bronco World Series in Monterey. All teams had strong showings in Sectional play and expect to put themselves in position to continue playing through the rest of their kid's summer vacation.
