San Juan Spirits 98 wins Cal Cup championship

The Folsom based San Juan Spirits 98 U-15 competitive girls? soccer team won the Cal Cup tournament June 16-17 at Cherry Island soccer club. The Spirits won all three of their preliminary games, outscoring their opponents 14-1 (5-0, 4-0, 5-1). They beat Castro Valley Soccer Club 5-0 in the semifinals and topped the highly-regarded Juventus Soccer Club from Redwood City by the same score in the finals. For the five weekend games, they outscored their opponents 24-1. The team leaves Friday for Illinois to play in the Elite Clubs National League Tournament, where they will face top teams from Dallas, Atlanta and Long Island. Team members include El Dorado Hills? residents Kristina O?Donnell, Rachel Ribeiro and Nicole Spring, Folsom residents Jessica Brandt and Ashley Newland and other Sacramento area residents including Michelle Mulrooney, Mikeala Mercado, Nici Lopez, Kamari Hines, Vanessa Arazaluz, Jordan Holt, Kayla Swank, Alexis Mata, Kirstin Cohen, Piper Ruggles, and Keonna Claypoole.
