While crowds seemed to be a little smaller at this year?s Cyclebration event held over the weekend in Folsom, that didn?t keep those who participated or attended the event from enjoying it. Jason Padilla and his wife, Melissa, and two kids, Brandon, 8, and Hannah, 5, came down to the event from their home in Pollock Pines. It was their first time at the event. ?We are a cycling family,? Padilla said. ?Not so much a racing family, but we enjoy cycling. This event is a good chance for families to get out together and ride. You can also meet new families with kids who enjoy cycling.? Brandon and Hannah raced in the under-10 mountain bike race on Saturday morning. ?I liked the course; it was really fun,? said Brandon, who finished second in the race. ?I fell a few times, but I thought the course was pretty easy.? Hannah said what she liked best about riding her bike is doing tricks. Melissa added, ?This is something definitely fun to do as a family.? Dave and Tanya Moffatt of Sacramento were milling around Folsom City Lions Park on Saturday with their kids, Collin, 7, and Elise, 5. They were there to introduce Collin to mountain bike racing. ?We ride our bikes as much as we can,? Dave said. ?Not as often as we?d like. I started on a BMX bike and then went to a road bike and then a mountain bike. I think this is a great event, but I think it would be nice if they emphasized the junior races more.? Collin enjoyed the mountain bike course and the race, though he wished it were a bit longer. After crashing the first trip around the course and losing his chain the second time during practice runs, when it came time to race, things went well for Collin, as he got through a treacherous dip in the track without incident. Lisa Depew, who is part of the Team Will bicycling team, a group who is a little more than a week away from a cross-country cycling trip, also enjoyed the event. ?I think it?s a fantastic family event and community event,? Depew said. ?It nice to see bikers having dialogue with other bikers. I hope our kids get excited about cycling as my husband and I are.?
