Pirates drop anchor for Halloween on Amaya Drive

Vista del Lago High School student Trent Johns has finished setting up his popular pirate-themed yard display at his parent’s home on Amaya Drive in Folsom. This is the sixth year that the 16-year-old with an interest in set design and carpentry has developed his own spooky creation. New additions to the display this year will include a battle sea up the home’s walkway, and an island with mermaids. Johns has built sets for both area high school theater departments and has been thinking about getting involved in charity building work following graduation. “I started decorating the yard when I was 11, when I realized how dark and quiet our street was on Halloween,” Johns said. “It’s fun having families come and check it out.” Johns said his display is appropriate for kids of all ages. If you’re interested in visiting the display, his address is 100 Amaya Drive. The display will be lit up from dusk to about 9:30 p.m. on weekdays and up until 11:30 p.m. on weekends and Halloween. ~ Eric Laughlin
