Perez, Robertson lift Bulldogs over Pacers, 5-4By: Matt Long, Sports Editor
Folsom High’s baseball team evened its record at 2-2 on the year following yesterday’s come-from-behind 5-4 win over Grant.
Alex Perez was one of many stars for the Bulldogs, as he not only came through with the game-winning hit, but also was the winning pitcher.
With the game tied four heading into the seventh inning, Ethan Robertson started a two-out rally with a hit and then stole second base. Perez followed with a single to center field to put the Bulldogs up 5-4.
In the bottom of the inning, Perez got the first two outs before allowing a bloop double down the right-field line to put the tying run on second. Perez, however, struck out the next batter and the Bulldogs held on for the 5-4 win.
“It was a tremendous team win,” Folsom coach Gilbert Brewer said. “They battled and competed all game.”
Folsom jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second before Grant tied it up in the bottom of the inning. The Pacers took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning, but Folsom answered with two runs in the top of the fifth to retake the lead.
Grant scored one more time in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at four, setting up Folsom’s heroics in the seventh.
Tanner Seibel had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Folsom offense. Robertson also had two hits, while Tommy Dougherty and Matt Maasberg drove in runs.
Craig Stafford started the game on the mound before Maasberg pitched the fourth and fifth innings.
