EL DORADO HILLS, CA - Flowers, balloons and candles sit among the ashes of charred ground where a young woman lost her life Friday in a fiery crash.

Hand-made signs at the site on Bass Lake Road on the eastbound side of Highway 50 read “RIP Ashley.”

“You will always be loved and cherished. Gone too soon. Rest in Paradise,” read one sign.

According to a report from the California Highway Patrol’s Placerville office, the solo-vehicle crash occurred around 2 a.m. May 3.

Ashley Culver, 21 and a 2010 graduate of Ponderosa High School, was killed in the crash, said CHP Officer Ron Davenport.

The 1996 Pontiac was reportedly traveling eastbound on Highway 50 at an unknown rate of speed when it left the highway just before the Bass Lake undercrossing.

The vehicle continued eastbound on the dirt embankment parallel to the highway, got airborne and landed on the east side dirt embankment where it came to rest and “burst into flames,” according to the accident report.

Emergency personnel responded and extinguished a small grass fire and the burning Pontiac before realizing there was a single occupant inside.

Culver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Memorial services were pending as of press time.
