A local high school alumni and coach was killed Aug. 22 in a freak winery accident. Josh Ruff was 22 years old and a 2007 graduate of Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills. He was the assistant cross country coach for the school as well. Ruff reportedly died as the result of an accident while working a wine press at the David Girard Winery, where he worked as an assistant winemaker. “An employee in another area heard a crash and soon found (Ruff with) his right leg pinned underneath a hopper,” said Lt. Tim Becker of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office. Attempts to revive Ruff were unsuccessful. He was transported to Sutter Roseville by air ambulance where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. According to Ruff’s Facebook page, he was engaged to Rachel Manasse. He was just weeks away from his upcoming nuptials.
