About 35 supporters of the El Dorado Hills Veterans Memorial project gathered recently for a project update and unveiling. “It’s a pleasure to work on this project,” said Mark Foltz, project manager for the memorial. A little more than an acre of land, adjacent to Promontory Community Park in El Dorado Hills, is to be transformed into a Veteran’s memorial park. The park, off Sophia Parkway on Alexandra Drive, will eventually become the third memorial in the county dedicated to those who have served our country. Guy Gertsch, president of El Dorado Hills Community Services District, acknowledged the hard work and “tireless efforts” of volunteers. “It’s an exciting project and great to able to take advantage of this memorial,” he said. The memorial park will honor veterans from all conflicts back to WWI, but will also serve as an education tool for students in the county. The memorial will feature a memory garden, walk-through exhibits and a gathering area with a stage. The El Dorado Hills CSD donated the land. Mark Foltz, general contractor and project manager for the project, said, “It’s a pleasure to do this project.” Organizers were hoping to schedule the ground breaking for either Memorial or Veterans Day, however, that didn’t work out. Groundbreaking is scheduled for Sept. 2, with a projected completion date of Memorial Day 2012, Foltz said. “It will all depend on the donations we receive,” Foltz said. The fund-raising goal has been set at $2 million. * * * IN THE KNOW Who: Fallen Warriors Memorial E-mail: info@fallenwarriorsmemorial.org Info: (916) 933-6854 or fallenwarriorsmemorial.org
