FOLSOM, CA - Four young ladies are in the spotlight in ?The Marvelous Wonderettes,? a musical that hits the right notes about high school, love and friendship. Told in popular songs of the 1950s and 1960s, four seniors ? Betty Jean (Kayla Lardner, a senior of Auburn?s Placer High), Missy (Jessica Larrick), Suzy (Jessica Nanoff) and Cindy Lou (Arjana Sanfilippo) ? perform at their 1958 high school prom. Songs such as ?Mr. Sandman,? ?Lollipop,? ?Dream Lover? and ?Stupid Cupid? comprise the first part of the show. After intermission, the clock fast forwards to 1968 at their 10-year high school reunion. The outfits, songs and demeanors change. You?ll hear ?The Shoop Shoop Song (It?s in his kiss),? ?Son of a Preacher Man,? ?Leader of the Pack? and ?Respect,? to list just a few. This is an appropriate show to take my 12-year-old daughter Parker who said ?it was awesome.? Her favorite actors were Nanoff and Larrick. My pick for favorite was Larrick, but I?m always impressed by her on stage. I gave her high marks in last year?s ?Evil Dead: The Musical? (which will return to Sutter Street Theatre this October) and just about every other shows in which she?s appeared. The piano is live, with John Wilder tickling the ivories. The show is directed by Warren Harrison, who recently appeared as Felix in ?The Odd Couple.? If you enjoy music, singing and having a good time, this one is for you. It runs through Aug. 26. * * * KNOW AND GO What: ?The Marvelous Wonderettes?
