Oak Ridge High senior Curtis McKenzie won the Will Robins Match Play Golf Championship defeating Emily Hoffman 3 and 1 on Nov. 20 at Empire Ranch Golf Course. McKenzie, 17, won three matches to work his way through the 20-person tournament before facing Hoffman in the finale. McKenzie grabbed an early lead in the match, winning the first three holes, before Hoffman came roaring back, as the two golfers went back and forth through the mid to late round before McKenzie pulled away for the win. McKenzie is hoping to earn a scholarship to attend William Jessup University next fall. This spring he and his teammates on Oak Ridge’s golf team hope to improve on last year’s season when the team qualified for the Masters Tournament.
