Man barricaded inside Folsom home surrenders after SWAT negotiations

Carl Sundahl School was put on lockdown during standoff

At 11:18 a.m. Monday morning, Folsom Police officers were called to a residence on Van Winkle Court in Folsom regarding a domestic dispute. When officers arrived they were advised by the reporting victim her husband had assaulted her and locked himself inside the residence with their child.

The home officers responded to was adjacent to Carl Sundahl Elementary on Inwood Road. Due to the uncertainty of the situation, Carl Sundahl was locked down to ensure the safety of the students and faculty. Nobody’s safety at Carl Sundahl was ever in jeopardy, according to Sgt. Jason Browning, with the Folsom Police Department.

Negotiators from the Folsom Police Department were able to communicate effectively with the suspect, resulting in the release of his child after 2.5 hours of conversation. The SWAT team apprehended the suspect, identified as Mark Weider, 22, of Rancho Cordova. Neither the child nor the suspect was seriously injured.

Weider was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on charges of domestic Battery, child endangerment, and taking a hostage to avoid arrest.
