A Major Middle

-A +A
Editor’s Note: Each week during the sports season, the Telegraph will profile a middle school athlete. Who: Nicole Matenaer, 13, is a 7th grader at Sutter Middle School and a center on the basketball team. What is your favorite part about the game? I like working with my team and just being on the court and playing. What are you best at? I’m best at defense and I like blocking shots and rebounding, but I also like when I score. I’m also good at free throws. Who’s had the most influence on your basketball career? Definitely my dad, John. He played my position through high school and he knows how to help me. How has the team done this season? We’ve had a few wins, but I think we’ve improved a lot. Coach’s Comment: “Nicole is a fantastic player and person. She plays hard on and off the court. She displays this by leading our team in rebounds, while maintaining a 4.0 in the classroom. We are fortunate to have this stellar student-athlete at Sutter." ~ Kyle Wilkin
