The Folsom Wave under-14 boys’ soccer team embarked on a weeklong tour of England last month and had the experience of a lifetime. The Wave played three matches against local competition and won all three games, scoring 15 goals and only conceding two. They watched two professional matches including Manchester City vs. Porto, received some custom coaching from Manchester City’s youth academy coaches and attended organized tours of the Manchester United and England national team stadiums. If this wasn’t enough, they crammed in some wonderful sightseeing including Stonehenge, London, Bath, Warwick Castle and some of the travelers even made it to Paris for the day. The tour was organized by England native and Folsom Wave assistant coach, Jason Devoys. What Devoys was most proud of during the entire trip was the fact that the head coaches of the opposing teams all stated they were extremely impressed with the sportsmanship, professionalism and play demonstrated by the Folsom Wave players during the matches. They were a credit to U.S. youth soccer and were told that they are more than welcome to come back and play anytime. Devoys acknowledged the Wave parents, who he says are such a great and tight-knit group of friends, who made it easy for him to organize the tour and who also contributed to making this an experience of a lifetime for their kids. The Folsom Wave team lineup including goals scored in the three matches includes Coaches – Mike Hodgdon, Brandon Ofiana, Jason Devoys; goalkeeper - PJ Sullivan; defenders - Derek Hsu, Scott Johnson (2 goals), Logan Kohne (1 goal), Eric Nelson; midfielders – Ryan Devoys (2 goals), Ryan Kohne, Grant Lomelino (2 goals), Cameron Sullivan (2 goals), Nick Valentine and forwards – Jaleel Baker, Eric McEntush (2 goals), Brandon Ofiana Jr. (4 goals), Jack Van Tuyle.
