Large crowd turns out for VIP opening of 36 Handles in El Dorado HillsBy: Penne Usher, Telegraph Correspondent
The place to be Friday was 36 Handles, the newest watering hole and eatery in El Dorado Hills.
For the VIP opening of the pub, food, fun and music were the name of the game for the packed house.
The new pub has taken over the space that was formerly occupied by Kinnee O’Reilly’s in the Montano de El Dorado center in El Dorado Hills. Kinnee O’Reilly’s shut its doors earlier this year.
Rick and Annette Ruff of El Dorado Hills were at the Friday opening of 36 Handles and were excited that the new eatery was open.
“We were sad when the other place closed,” Annette Ruff said. “We are excited that this place is now here. We enjoy having another place to go.”
Veteran restaurateur Richard Righton, who also owns Relish Burger Bar in El Dorado Hills and Bidwell Street Bistro in Folsom, moved forward and opened his version of a pub.
“It’s a bit of everything,” he said as local dignitaries and friends vied for his attention. The ever-calm Righton played on saying that it is just great to be a part of an awesome dining area. “It’s just great to be a part of this.”
The newly re-opened eatery has 36 beers on tap – hence the name – and will serve traditional Irish and English fare.
Righton boasted about the fish ‘n chips, which are a traditional London dish. His versions, however, will vary.
Righton said he will be offering fish ‘n chips “six ways.”
The dishes will vary by fish type and cooking style to include not only the traditional fried style, but a lightly seasoned and blackened version as well.
The festive opening was enlivened by the sounds of the BlackEyed Dempseys, an Irish- Rock band that can take a crowd from America to Ireland through their heart-pumping sounds.
With Jamie Hill and Moe Crummett, on guitar and vocals, Keith Jukes, rocking the accordion, Quinn Brentson on bass, Josh Wagner on drums and Mark Repking strumming the banjo, the joint was rocking.
