KNOW AND GO What: The Dauntless Privateers and fair Where: El Dorado Hills Library, 7455 Silva Valley Parkway When: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sept. 12 Cost: Free with library card Info: or (916) 358-3500 --- Pirates have set a course for El Dorado Hills and are expected to weigh anchor from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 12. The El Dorado Hills Library is bracing itself for the scalawags, according to youth services librarian Carolyn Brooks. This isn’t the first time the ship, known as the Dauntless, has plundered the bucolic ’burb. “We have the pirates coming back to the library again,” Brooks said. “And this time, they are bringing their entire village.” She said the pirate ship and village would set up behind the library at Serrano, near the pond. “We’re going to have a group doing sword fighting, another group doing trebuchet demonstrations firing cabbages and a man who makes mandolins giving a demonstration,” Brooks said. “It’s totally family friendly.” Vendors will be on hand selling everything from costumes to food and beverages, she said. The Blarney Band will also keep folks entertained. “They’ll be playing on Saturday,” she said. “They are fantastic.” Tours of the pirate ship will also be provided. Other activities will include puppet shows and storytellers, she said. Six-year-old Marissa Bingham, of El Dorado Hills, is looking forward to seeing the pirates. “It’s pretty good,” she said. “Yeah, this will be my first time.” Her 8-year-old sister, Kathryn, was also getting into the spirit of things. “I’m excited,” she said. Brooks said that anyone seeking adventure could gain admittance by flashing some plastic. “Admission is free with a library card,” she said. “It can be any library card, not just El Dorado County. Only one person in a group needs to have a card, not every single person coming into the fair.” Don Chaddock can be reached at
