Jaeger places third at NU; leads team to third-place finish as well

Vista del Lago’s varsity boys’ cross country team placed third at the Nevada Union Invitational held Saturday. Zack Jaeger equaled his team’s finish as an individual, as he posted a time of 16:42 to lead the squad. Kyle Chun placed 14th in 17:32, while teammates Andrew Shiek and Sam Ruby ran 23rd and 24th in 18:26 and 18:27, respectively. Aaron Shiek rounded out the scoring by placing 30th in 19:07. The varsity girls didn’t field a full five-woman team, but still had runners in the race. Megan Howell posted a time of 21:59 and finished 16th. Jennifer Morgan finished four seconds behind Howell, while Michaela Reynolds ran 27th 22:18. The freshman-sophomore girls placed second in their division, led by Alayna Gocke, who won the three-mile race in 20:05. Weirui Xiao followed Gocke in 17th place in 22:56 with teammates Lucie Chevreuil two spots behind in 23:00. Hanna Montague placed 21st in 23:12, while Sarah Downs placed 40th in 24:58. Lexie Zimnie, Devrina Chidambaram and Alex Varejian also ran for the team. The varsity boys finished fourth with Ryan Von Chance placing 16th in 20:01. Vincent Chevreuil, Cooper Rode and Ryan Anderson finished 31st, 32nd and 33rd, respectively. Niko Guevara, Daniel Baquero, Cody Cox, Justin Prahm and Chris Vonderwerth also ran with the team. At the junior varsity level, Christian Guevara placed 23rd in 20:28, followed by Mario Sanchez (56th, 22:11) and Paul Fangon (86th, 24:06). For the girls, Nicole Cooper finished eighth in 23:45 with Elizabeth Anderson 12th in 24:30.
