With 52 percent of the nearly 400 votes cast, Del Oro running back Bryce Pratt was the inaugural winner of our Placer Sports’ Athlete of the Week last week.

The 6-foot, 195-pound senior has rushed for 1,000 yards in the Golden Eagles first five games this season, earning him the vote of our readers for the first fall sports honor.

The newest feature at our regional all-sports Web site continues this week with three new candidates chosen from the high schools throughout the Gold Country Media footprint – covering Placer County as well as the communities of Folsom and El Dorado Hills.

Voting will run from Monday through Sunday each week on our Placer Sports Web site at www.placersports.com . Log on each week to check out the new nominees and cast your vote.

This week’s poll is a diverse group, including a girls volleyball star from Colfax, a high-scoring running back from Rocklin and a big time passer at Folsom High.

Cassandra Campbell, a senior outside hitter, is a standout for the Colfax High girls volleyball team, leading the Lady Falcons to a second place finish at the recent Sheldon Invitational also helped ignite Colfax's four-game win last week over Placer as she accounted for 16 kills and eight blocks for the first place Lady Falcons.

Rocklin running back Jackson Cummings rushed 20 times for 128 yards and caught three balls for 35 yards in a 49-21 win over Napa. The senior tailback has carried the ball 99 times for 673 yards and 13 touchdowns this season and also has a receiving TD as the Thunder enter Sierra Foothill League play after a 5-0 non-league record.

Folsom quarterback Dano Graves completed 23-of-28 passes for 401 yards and six touchdowns in a 54-33 win over Casa Roble last Friday. The junior quarterback leads the Sac-Joaquin Section in touchdown passes with 26, averages more than 300 yards per game and completed 78 percent of his tosses. He leads a Folsom offense that is averaging more than 50 points a game.
