Folsom High's golf team may be young, but the group's equally as talented. With three sophomores and three freshmen, the Bulldogs placed second in the first Delta River League Tournament on Monday, shooting a 383 at Mather Golf Course, just eight shots behind tournament winner Jesuit. Pleasant Grove placed third in 404 strokes, followed by Sheldon (438), Monterey Trail (567) and Florin (614). Sophomore D.J. Christensen shot a one-under-par 71, followed by freshmen Joel Slak and Taylor Knoll, who both shot 74s. Sophomores Brian Knoll and Alex Morgan shot 80 and 84, respectively, while freshman Mike Salzano finished his round in 92 strokes. We have a very young team, so I was very pleased with our first outing in the league tournament, Folsom coach Steve Burgess said. I know these young men will work hard and improve each week. That is our goal this year. We want to get better each week and give Jesuit a challenge to the league title. Folsom's next competition is March 27 at home against Kennedy High.
