Lose your glass slipper and be swept away this weekend with the El Dorado Musical Theatre as they perform “Cinderella.” Show times vary from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 9, through Sunday, July 18, at the Folsom High School, Jill Solberg Performance Arts Theater, 1655 Iron Point Road, Folsom. Tickets are $16 for adults, $13 for seniors and children and $13 for students. “There is a tremendous amount of talent here, and this is a great opportunity to bring your kids out to see live entertainment,” said Tanya Bonds, show producer and Folsom resident since 2001. The performance showcases the theater’s cast from the rising stars program, including 79 children ranging in age from 6 to 13. The show was rehearsed for six weeks, and will feature the timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale with the Rodgers and Hammerstein’s hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance, according to organizers. “The kids are very excited,” Bonds said. “It’s our rising stars program, so it’s nice for the younger kids to be grouped together.” Caroline Mixon, 12, is playing the lead role as Cinderella. “I think the show is going very well, I’m very excited,” she said. “It’s going to be a beautiful show.” The theater is an award winning regional theater company based in El Dorado Hills. It features performers aged 6 to 20. Originally, the theater was founded in 2001. It is a non-profit organization that puts on five major productions per year. “The theater offers an opportunity for children of all ages to gain the experience of being onstage,” Bonds said. “It gives you the ability to speak in front of people and feel confident.” Mixon has been with the theater for two years and said she has learned a lot. Cinderella will be her fourth performance with the theater. “The theater has helped me grow by learning discipline, having the responsibility of learning lines and being prepared,” Mixon said.
