The Twin Lakes Food Bank is preparing for the 20th annual Easter Ham event to help bring a holiday dinner to hundreds of local families in need.

The Easter Ham event is from 8:30-11:30 a.m., on Good Friday, March 29, at 327 Montrose Drive, Folsom.

Families with a need will receive an Easter ham or turkey and Easter baskets for their children.

“We’ve been averaging 200 families a week which has left our food supply from the holidays depleted earlier than expected. The lines at the food bank are not decreasing. Just when we start to see a slight relief in the number of needy families, the statistics start trending back upward within two weeks,” said Tammy Thompson, Twin Lakes Food Bank director.

Thompson is asking for community help to ensure every needy family receives help this year.

“Our biggest need is funding to help the food bank purchase enough hams and trimmings to provide Easter dinner to 600 families, including senior citizens and some special dietary needs,” she said. “We anticipate more than 1,000 children will be signed up for Easter baskets full of goodies. To make this happen, we are calling on our community for help.”

She said along with funding help, they are also in need of children’s pre-made Easter baskets or Easter candy and empty baskets so they can prepare them prior to the event.

“This is a community-driven event. Our goal is to provide each family with a ham dinner, along with all the trimmings, and an Easter basket filled with some candy, plastic eggs, a small toy or stuffed animal for children 12 and under,” Thompson said. “Every single Easter basket is unique and made with love by our neighbors, our church families, our local business and clubs.”

Easter baskets and hams will be available as long as supplies last.

“This event is one of our favorites,” Thompson said. “It’s full of new beginnings. It inspires us and brings hope to all. Easter brings a sense of community and caring to all who are involved.”
