Fuller earns podium finish at U18 national ski championshipsBy: Staff Report
Folsom's High senior Jordan Fuller placed sixth in the downhill in the USSA/FIS Marriott U18 Junior North American Championships held at Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort.
Fuller put on a downhill clinic, knifing down Cornice Bowl, weaving thru the eight gates, building speed then launching off of the Hare Jump, landing almost 150 feet down course. He then nailed the first gate on a tight and fast big left turn down Gremlin's Gulch, over the tricky roller and then the fall away jump, hammering the money gate and cruising to a sixth-place finish. Fuller was just six-tenths of a second from placing second, as he was the 10th fastest on the top section of the course and sixth-fastest on the bottom.
The course at Mammoth was challenging to say the least as skiers went down the 1.44-mile long course in 76 seconds, reaching top speeds of near 80 miles per hour.
Fuller came home with medal for the second year in a row and helped his team win the Region Cup again this year. Only 18 of the 76 men competing this year medaled with no one winning more than two races and collecting more than two medals.
Fuller hopes to be selected as an alternate for the USA Alpine National Championships being held at Squaw Valley the last week of March. Fuller wraps up the season with a two elite tech series, one in Mammoth and another at Breckenridge Colorado before returning to California for a Elite speed series back at Mammoth and a Divisional FIS series at Sugar Bowl.
