American River Futbol Club?s (ARFC) Freedom ?02 girls did an outstanding job at Folsom?s Summer Challenge Soccer tournament July 14-15. The girls battled hard in all four of their games and demonstrated a number of newly-acquired skills, including passing and possession. The team scored 11 goals and only gave up three. Many different players took advantage of scoring opportunities, as the girls came together as a unit for the games. The girls began the tournament strong with a 4-0 shutout over Danville?s Mustang Fusion. In the second match Freedom ?02 once again saw victory with a 6-1 win over Folsom?s Krushers. In the third game, Freedom ?02 met their toughest competition yet and tied Roseville?s Top Notch 1-1, advancing Freedom ?02 to the championship game to play Rocklin?s Chili Peppers. The girls battled hard against a tough opponent and dominated in first touches and containing play to their side of the field. The Chili Peppers, however, were able to score on a breakaway in the last few minutes of the game resulting in a second-place finish for the Freedom ?02. The girls played with a lot of heart and determination. American River Futbol Club is the Division 1 competitive soccer program for ARYSL. It is both CYSA-North and US Club Soccer affiliated and offers an alternative to higher-priced programs servicing players from Sacramento through Placerville.
