If you have a youngster age 5-13 who is interested in learning how to play tennis and also wants to try a little competitive play, registration is now under way for an introductory tennis program. The Folsom Youth Tennis League at the Broadstone Racquet Club begins April 24 and runs for five consecutive Saturday afternoon sessions through May 22, culminating in the League All Star Tournament on June 5. Each two-hour session starts at 1 p.m. What makes this program so popular is that children learn tennis fundamentals using the United State’s Tennis Association’s Quickstart program format designed to get a child rallying and playing in a very short period of time utilizing age specific equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring. “As a father of 7-year-old boys and a former tennis pro, I know kids want to compete and play on teams,” League Administrator Patrick Rutz said. “This program finally brings those concepts together. Our boys had a great time last year and it didn’t break the bank.” Registrations received by April 2 are $60; registrations received April 3-6 are $70. Last year, nearly 400 young players took part in the program, which was held at Spare Time Clubs in Elk Grove, Folsom, Gold River, Lodi, Natomas, Oakley, Roseville, and Sacramento. This program fills up quickly. Enroll now at www.YouthTennisLeague.net. Specifics about the program format can be found online at quickstarttennis.com.
