Eleven midget division football players from Folsom, Bailey Laolagi, Matt Jimison, Tyler Crandall, John Bender, Markus Hendricks, Sam Whitney, Cody Creason, Bryan Weldy, Lorenzo DeLaRiva, Josiah Deguara and Jake Browning joined forces with youth players from Oak Ridge Jr. Trojans and Ponderosa Jr. Bruins and participated in the Gridiron Football Tournament in Roseville on Nov. 20-22. The team won all three games played on three consecutive days. Saturday they beat an all-star team from Pleasanton (East Bay) 30-12. On Sunday they beat a league championship team from Tokay (Lodi) 41-14 and on Monday they won 24-20 over a team from Oakmont in Roseville that consisted of mainly freshmen players from five different high schools. The Folsom eleven had a major impact on the games. Laolagi had eight rushing touchdowns and hundreds of rushing yards. Bryan Weldy scored on a long run and had an interception, while Matt Jimison had some amazing catches and caught a touchdown pass from Jake Browning, who had three touchdown passes and many key completions. Jimison also had an interception along with some unassisted open field tackles. Josiah Deguara threw a touchdown pass and played great defense at the safety position. Hendricks and Whitney, who were both blocking machines on offense, each had big fourth-down receptions in the tournament, as did Weldy. Bender's leg was amazing once again as he was perfect on PAT's and made a 27-yard field goal. Creason's blocking and defensive tackles were huge throughout the weekend, as were Hendricks. DeLaRiva had a reception, and both he and Crandall had some big tackles at key moments for the boys from Folsom, who finish out their youth football careers with a championship.
