Folsom High is sending four of its top wrestlers to the National High School Coaches Association Wrestling Championships in Virginia Beach, Va. Mason Koshiyama and Lorenzo De La Riva will compete in the freshman division at nationals while Nicholas Fiegener will wrestle in the sophomore nationals. Anyone in the nation can compete in the underclassmen nationals, but to be able to compete in the senior nationals, a wrestler must qualify through each state tournament. Folsom High’s Connor Pollock achieved that honor by placing sixth at 126 pounds and will also be competing in nationals. All four wrestlers will be trying to place in the top-8 for their weight class to become an All-American. Fiegener was able to accomplish that feat last year, finishing seventh in the country at 135 pounds to become Folsom High’s first freshman All-American. Folsom High has had past success at this tournament, as Jordan Hart finished fifth in the country in 2009 to become Folsom’s first senior All-American. “This is a great experience for the wrestlers, but it can be very costly,” Folsom coach Mike Collier said. “We believe in seeking out the best competition in the area, the state, and in this case, the country. It will be a trip they will never forget, but they could use help financially. If anyone is interested in becoming a sponsor for these young men, the kids and families would be very appreciative.” If anyone can donate or help sponsor this trip, contact Mike Collier at firstname.lastname@example.org or call at (530) 867-1910. Any help would be great and no amount is too small. The wrestlers leave for Virginia on March 27.
