It went by quickly, but the Folsom girls’ volleyball team was swept in a 3-0 match at the hands of host Bella Vista on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs led in each of three games, never by more than one point, while Bella Vista countered with stretches of scoring more than five points in each game as well to win 25-16, 25-12, 25-18. Folsom was within three points late in the third game, but the team chalked up its loss to communication problems. “We weren’t anticipating what they were going to do and we were left waiting on our feet,” said senior outside hitter Taylor Bright, who had five kills and two blocks. Bright and junior outside hitter Kristin Perkins, who had four kills, both spoke about the team’s lack of energy from the start of the match. In the first game, senior captain Kate Whitney had a pair of aces and Perkins put down a pair of kills. The Bulldogs fought to an 8-8 tie in game one, but couldn’t hold out. Each game followed the same recipe. “We just need to work harder at practice. We just had a talk with our coach [Cinnamon DaSilva] about how we need to do more with the time we have [at practice]. We’re going to start having snacks before games too,” said Perkins. The Bulldogs have two more preseason matches against Monterey Trail (7-4) and powerhouse Rocklin (8-5). Their record moved to 2-6 with the loss. Folsom’s first Delta River League game is at home against Oak Ridge (6-2) on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
