Folsom varsity, JV boys' cross country teams reach section finals

For the first time at Folsom High, the school will send a varsity and junior varsity team to the Sac-Joaquin Section championships. The Bulldogs’ varsity boys’ team, led again by Sam Scheuer, placed sixth at the sub-section meet on Saturday at Angels Camp, one of 10 teams from the section to qualify. Scheuer placed 10th with a time of 16 minutes, 27 seconds, the second-fastest time ever run by a Folsom High athelte. Aaron Burkhead placed 20th in 16:43, followed by Vinnie Morin (42nd, 17:15), Jon Barrows (45th, 17:19), Austin Bailey (60th, 17:36) and Jake Goodwin (68th, 17:44). Folsom’s junior varsity boys’ team placed fourth behind only Bella Vista, Davis and Del Campo to advance to Friday’s section championships at Willow Hills. Phil West led the way, as he finished seventh in 17:15. Mike Kinoshita finished right behind him in eighth, one second back. Ryley Hoffman placed 14th in 17:29 with David Hanson running 22nd in 17:43. Cristiano Bobiles (48th, 18:37), Spencer Buelna (49th, 18:37), Yudai Sakguchi (125th, 22:23) and Zack Lasker (210st, 24:32) rounded out the Folsom runners. Representing the varsity girls, Folsom’s Vivian Lam qualified for sections by placing 23rd in 20:14. Justine Angello (26:14) and Ann Ruppert (29:37) also competed but did not qualify. Katie Bock led the freshman-sophomore girls by placing second in 14:00, while teammate Muna Alhamed also qualified for sections with a time of 14:07. Also competing on the team were Jen Rees, Ashley Anderson and Kaeti Park. The freshman-sophomore boys placed 14th, led by Weston DeWitt, who placed 50th in 12:55. Tim Scott ran 57th in 12:58 followed by John Kretschman (61st, 13:04), Jordan Denny (92nd, 13:43), Peter Merrill (94th, 13:45), Matt Merrill (119th, 14:48), Kim Broff (121st, 14:59) and Will Randall (17:15).
