Folsom softball team drops 13-7 decision to Laguna CreekBy: Matt Long, Sports Editor
Folsom High’s softball team fell to 1-10 on the season following Tuesday’s 13-7 loss to Laguna Creek, but the Lady Bulldogs are baby stepping in the right direction.
When the same teams met eight days earlier, Folsom failed to score a run in an 11-0 loss, but yesterday managed seven. In fact, Folsom led Laguna Creek 4-1 after 2 ½ innings, before the Cardinals tied it up at four in the bottom of the third inning.
Laguna Creek scored three more times in the fourth inning and broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning.
Folsom cut into the lead a bit in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs before the final out was made.
“From where we were last week when we played them, we did even better this time,” Folsom coach Mike Scott said. “We hit the ball and would have scored more runs, but Laguna Creek made some great defensive plays. That’s part of the game. Sierra (Pettit) only walked two batters. When she got the ball up, they scored; but when she kept the ball down, she got a lot of ground balls.”
Scott said Kacie Hurlimann, Sara Klein, Taylor Gisler, Whitney Mayberry and Sami Allen led the offensive attack.
Folsom’s next game is at home against Oak Ridge Thursday at 4 p.m. before traveling to Bear River Friday.
