The under-12 girls’ Folsom Phenoms upset the Piedmont Highlanders 2-0 to win the NORCAL State Cup White Division.

After winning District Cup last year and Association Cup the previous year, this was their first year transitioning to this highly-competitive level of play, with 50 percent new players this year, rising from a preliminary rank of 11th to the final eight and gaining a berth in the top bracket.

The final four games in State Cup play are single elimination games. The Phenoms allowed only one goal in the final round with their “brick wall” of defenders including Elyse Nordheim, Sidney Himmrich, Devry Millet and Taylor Sorensen, along with goalie, Kayleigh Chavez. They Phenoms were underdogs in every game, defeating the fourth-seeded team, the Cal Blues Shock, then the top-seeded team, Merced, (in penalty kicks) and finally the second-seeded team, Piedmont. Both goals were group efforts but credited to Caroline Guthrie and Madison Diego.

In addition to the players above, the roster includes Keara Colombo, Tessa Bomke, Melia Blankenfeld, Milan Calcagno, Lainie Godwin, Kelissa Lemoine, Sophie Moore, Neha Shetty and Jenna Winger. Dale Colombo, Grace Guthrie and Josh Guthrie coach the team.  Team trainer is Kathleen "Kat" Brenneman.
