Folsom opens cross country season at Oakmont Invite

The Folsom High cross country team opened their 2012 season in fine fashion at the Oakmont Invitational on Saturday at Maidu Park in Roseville. The varsity boys took second out of 12 teams, finishing behind defending section champion Del Campo, 31-65. Sam Scheuer had the best race of his career, taking second after leading with 200 meters to go, finishing the flat, 2.5-mile course in 12 minutes, 28 seconds. Mike Kinoshita placed 11th in 13:11 and was followed by teammates Jake Goodwin (13th, 13:17), Vinnie Morin (15th, 13:21) and Jon Barrows (32nd, 14:01). The junior varsity boys won their division with Blake Shaw leading the way with a fourth-place finish. Shaw completed the course in 14:14. David Hanson ran sixth in 14:12 and he was followed by Cristian Bobiles (8th, 14:21), Tim Scott (10th, 14:41) and Alexander Haines (12th, 15:20). Other runners included Spencer Buelna (14th, 15:40), Peter Merrill (19th, 16:22) and Jake Stern (16:24). The freshman-sophomore boys placed third behind Oakmont and Del Campo. Freshman Logan Kohne placed fourth to lead the team, finishing in 13:50. Weston Dewitt ran 13th in 14:25, followed by John Kretschmann (23rd, 15:19), Gerardo Flores (27th, 15:51) and Chris Nowel (30th, 16:02). Also running on the team included Parker Nelson (35th, 16:23), Andrew Reed (44th, 16:58), Matt Merrill (45th, 17:01), Wil Randall (56th, 18:25), Santiago Cervantes (58th, 18:54), Owen Collins (59th, 19:02) and Kyle Cardenas (65th, 19:34). Vivian Lam led the varsity girls, as she placed seventh in 15:00. Ashley Anderson ran 32nd in 18:44, followed by Jenn Rees (42nd, 19:48) and Katei Park (44th, 20:38). Folsom’s freshman-sophomore girls ran second to St. Francis, as Sarah Anderson was the first Folsom runner to cross the line in sixth place in 15:52. Katie Bock finished seventh in 15:59 with Muna Alhamad (9th, 16:20), Lindsey Bailey (23rd, 18:11), Michelle Hanson (29th, 18:46) and Abbi Johnson (54th, 21:47) following. Folsom and Del Campo host the fifth annual Willow Hills Relays Saturday at Willow Hills.
